Oh my dearest cocinero! It is so so cold right now… I can only think in one thing: going to the Canary Islands for the next few months 😛 Buuut… this is not possible so I decided to treat myself with the warmest dishes of Spanish cuisine (a more realistic option).

Today I bring you a very typical winter dessert: torrijas. It is very easy, you just need a couple of days old bread, milk, egg, sugar and cinnamon. The result is a milk-soaked fried bread that is soft and juicy inside. The most important step on this recipe is to soak enough the bread in the milk, but don’t leave it too much or it will be destroyed and you won’t be able to fry it. It is a quite heavy dessert so with one or two bread slices per person is enough.

Let me know if you prepare torrijas and enjoy cocinero! ❤️

Serves: 4

Difficulty: I can light the stove

8 slices of old bread

500 ml milk

2 eggs

Slice the bread and soak in the milk ten minutes in each side.

Soak in the egg and immediately fry in hot sunflower oil.

Once it is golden on both sides, put the bread in a dish with kitchen paper to absorb as much oil as possible.

Add sugar and cinnamon, as much as you want!

And your torrijas are ready cocinero!
